A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of meeting a prolific climber by the name of Vitaliy (“just say Italy after the V” he says). I had read a variety of his trip reports on the Supertopo and had become something of a fan. While I find his trip reports highly inspiring, I’ve no hope of completing any of these feats myself! And so my appreciation has taken on a kind of celebrity-fan quality. Similar to the esteem I share for Eric’s peaksforfreaks exploits, which inspired me to climb the northeast couloir of Mt Langley as part of my very first backpacking trip.

Back to the topic at hand, Vitaliy says, ‘Such a long traverse must be climbed one peak at a time. Don’t look too far ahead or you won’t have a chance.’ I was astounded when he mentioned he had the strength to keep going (beyond the insane distance detailed in his report), but had to break off the traverse due to a bum knee. Amazing!
